Jodhpur Rural Police initiated a suo motu FIR regarding the suspicious death of a woman in the Asop-Bhopalgarh area, followed by an overnight cremation, as confirmed by Superintendent of Police, P.D. Nitya. The incident is under serious scrutiny due to the circumstances surrounding the woman’s demise and the hasty cremation conducted at night without informing the authorities.
On May 14, the woman and her husband visited the Asop police station due to mutual disputes and family tensions. Despite counseling by police officials and the opportunity to file a formal complaint, the woman chose not to report any issues. Consequently, the Station House Officer presented the couple to an Executive Magistrate for preventive legal measures.
The woman’s brothers later arrived at the police station, assuring officials of her safety and pledging to prevent further disputes. Subsequently, she left with her brothers for her maternal home. The next morning, news of the woman’s death and the overnight cremation reached the police, leading to the discovery that she was the same individual who had visited the station earlier.
Upon learning of the suspicious circumstances, the police took suo motu cognizance and filed an inquest report. Forensic teams, including the FSL and Mobile Forensic Unit, were summoned to the site for evidence collection, analyzing samples from the cremation site for further investigation. A Medical Board conducted a post-mortem examination, with samples sent for forensic analysis, as the investigating agency delves into all aspects of the case. Legal actions will follow based on the investigation’s outcomes, according to SP P.D. Nitya.
