A team from West Bengal’s West Midnapore conducted searches at Abhishek Banerjee’s residence in Kolkata to locate his executive assistant, Sumit Roy. The search, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police and central armed police forces personnel, took place in the early hours of Saturday. Authorities, including a team from the local Kalighat Police Station, waited outside Banerjee’s residence before eventually entering after a two-hour wait.
The search was aimed at finding Roy, who is currently evading authorities in a case filed against him at Salboni Police Station. The operation, conducted with the suspicion that Roy might be hiding at Banerjee’s residence, was closely monitored. Mamata Banerjee, former Chief Minister and Banerjee’s aunt, arrived at the scene upon hearing about the search.
Following a two-hour operation, security forces left Banerjee’s residence. Banerjee later criticized the police for their actions, claiming they forcibly entered his home. He is scheduled to face questioning by two investigating agencies on consecutive days for various cases. On June 14, he will be interrogated by the state police’s Criminal Investigation Department regarding discrepancies in legislators’ signatures on a crucial resolution.
The following day, June 15, Banerjee is expected to face questioning by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a cash-for-school-job case. Finally, on June 16, he is set to appear at the CID headquarters again for interrogation related to allegations of inciting violence and threatening the Union Home Minister before the recent Assembly polls.
