Police in Herat province, western Afghanistan, confiscated 170 kg of illegal drugs from a vehicle and apprehended two suspected drug smugglers. The seizure, which included opium and hashish hidden in the car, was made following intelligence inputs. The arrested individuals are accused of attempting to traffic the contraband to an undisclosed location.
In a separate incident in Khost province last week, authorities discovered 18 kg of hashish and detained a suspected drug trafficker. Similarly, in Jawzjan province in December, eight individuals were arrested for their involvement in narcotics production and smuggling. Afghan police have been conducting targeted operations to combat the illegal drug trade across the country.
On November 14, 2025, in Takhar province, a suspected drug smuggler was arrested by Afghan police while trying to transport crystal methamphetamine and heroin production chemicals. The suspect, who intended to sell the materials in the provincial capital, was taken into custody for further investigation.
