In a significant move against narcotics trafficking, the Special Staff of East District Police, in collaboration with Police Station Patparganj Industrial Area, apprehended two individuals and confiscated 234 grams of ganja near Sabji Mandi, Gazipur Road, Delhi. The arrests were made during intensive patrolling and surveillance operations as part of a joint anti-narcotics initiative under the ‘Zero Tolerance Policy’ against drug trafficking.
The operation, aimed at curbing the illegal supply and trafficking of contraband substances, was a joint effort by the Special Staff of East District and the staff of PS Patparganj Industrial Area. A team, led by the SHO of PS Patparganj Industrial Area and Inspector Jitendra Malik of the Special Staff, was deployed for patrolling, surveillance, and targeted checking operations in the area. The team included several officers like SI Jitender Charan, SI Gaurav, and Constable Shivam.
On May 26, at around 8:15 P.M., the police team intercepted two suspicious individuals near Sabji Mandi on Gazipur Road. The suspects attempted to flee upon seeing the police but were swiftly apprehended after a brief chase. A subsequent search led to the recovery of 234 grams of ganja from their possession, with one accused holding 135 grams and the other 99 grams. A case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act was registered, and investigations are ongoing.
The first accused, Jitu Gupta, aged 30, a resident of Bhovapur, Kaushambi, Ghaziabad, is a labourer addicted to ganja and liquor consumption. He has a previous case under the Delhi Excise Act. The second accused, Birla, aged 19, also from Bhovapur, is a labourer addicted to similar substances but has no prior criminal record. Police are continuing investigations to trace the source and supply chain of the seized ganja.
