A police sub-inspector at Vayor Police Station in Gujarat’s West Kutch district is facing charges after allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 from a complainant. The officer, identified as Indravijaysinh Gohil, accepted Rs 40,000 before fleeing during a trap operation near Gayatri Temple in Bhuj.
The complainant, involved in a criminal case registered at Vayor Police Station, reported the illegal demand to the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). The officer had asked for the bribe in exchange for not troubling the complainant and allowing their factory to operate without interference.
Following the complaint, the ACB set up a trap operation. During the operation, the accused negotiated with the complainant and took Rs 40,000 instead of the initial Rs 50,000 demand. The officer then grew suspicious, took the money, and fled the scene.
An investigation is ongoing, and the accused officer faces charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The trap was conducted by Police Inspector J.B. Chaudhary of the Kutch (East) ACB Police Station at Gandhidham, along with the ACB team.
The Gujarat Anti-Corruption Bureau is known for conducting such trap operations based on complaints received through its toll-free helpline and regional units. This recent action is part of the bureau’s efforts to combat corruption involving public servants in the state.
