The political dispute over the Yamuna Water Agreement has intensified in Rajasthan, with the ruling BJP and Opposition Congress engaging in a war of words regarding the credit for bringing Yamuna waters to the parched Shekhawati region. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot challenged the BJP government to ensure water delivery on the ground rather than focusing solely on signing agreements.
In response, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma criticized Congress leaders for their lack of understanding of agreements like MoAs and MoUs. He emphasized the significant work being undertaken, including the Yamuna Water Agreement and the Kisau Dam project, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership to enhance water availability in the state.
Sharma further highlighted the achievements of the BJP government, contrasting them with the alleged failures of the previous Congress administration. He pointed out the government’s efforts in employment, power supply, and water infrastructure, which he claimed surpassed the accomplishments of the Congress during its tenure.
The Chief Minister defended the Yamuna Water Agreement against Opposition criticism, emphasizing that Rajasthan’s interests are being safeguarded through ongoing engagement with the Central Government. He underscored that initiatives like the Yamuna Water Agreement and the Kisau Dam project are crucial for bolstering the state’s water security.
