Political leaders from the Congress and the BJP are at odds over the Indian government’s handling of the Israel-Iran conflict. Congress MP Renuka Chowdhury criticized the government for what she sees as a delayed response to the crisis, calling it a “costly deal” for India. She expressed concerns about the sensitive phase the country is going through and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to navigate the complexities carefully.
On the other hand, Congress MP Ujjwal Raman Singh raised alarm about the deteriorating situation for ordinary citizens, citing increasing inflation and disruptions to maritime trade, especially through the Strait of Hormuz. He questioned the government’s decision-making process and urged for tangible results to address the challenges faced by the people.
In response to the criticism, BJP MP Kamaljeet Sehrawat defended the government’s approach, emphasizing India’s neutral and diplomatic stance in the conflict. Sehrawat highlighted India’s efforts to maintain friendly relations with all parties involved and its engagement with global stakeholders to de-escalate tensions. She mentioned Prime Minister Modi’s ongoing discussions with various countries, including US President Trump, in search of a resolution.
