Reacting to spiritual leader Dhirendra Shastri’s recent comments on “removing the stain” of Kashi, political figures have responded cautiously, balancing religious sentiments with legal considerations.
Shiv Sena National Spokesperson Shaina NC emphasized the importance of Sanatana Dharma as a symbol of peace and unity, while also acknowledging the court’s role in the Kashi Vishwanath issue. She expressed hope for a similar resolution as seen in Ayodhya.
In line with this sentiment, Uttar Pradesh Minister of State (Independent Charge) Narendra Kumar Kashyap noted that restoring religious sites to their original state resonates with many people. He expressed optimism for successful endeavors in the future.
Shastri’s remarks in Varanasi, particularly on the Gyanvapi Mosque issue, have sparked discussions on preserving Kashi’s significance in Sanatan Dharma. His visit to the Kashi Vishwanath Temple reinforced his belief in removing the perceived stain and raising a saffron flag at the location.
The issue remains intricate, intertwined with legal and historical dialogues. A 2024 Archaeological Survey of India study indicated the existence of a Hindu temple at the site before the current structure, adding complexity to the matter.
Amid ongoing debates, political leaders stress the importance of faith and adherence to legal processes, navigating a delicate balance as public discourse on the topic escalates.
