All recognized political parties in Meghalaya, with the exception of the Voice of the People Party (VPP), participated in an all-party meeting organized by the state government. The meeting, led by senior Meghalaya government officials, focused on presenting the key observations, legal aspects, and constitutional implications outlined in the Expert Committee’s report. Commissioner and Secretary of the Personnel and Administrative Reforms Department, Cyril V. Diengdoh, mentioned that the report was presented in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly on February 18, 2026.
Speaking to the press post the meeting, Diengdoh stated that Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma had assured the Assembly of consulting political parties before making any further decisions on the issue. He also mentioned that copies of the report would be shared with all political parties as per the Chief Minister’s directive. Describing the report as extensive, Diengdoh highlighted that the committee’s findings were spread over 21 volumes, totaling nearly 4,000 pages.
Diengdoh noted that due to time constraints, only the major recommendations and significant legal and constitutional aspects were discussed during the hour-long meeting. He reported that most political parties present did not raise major objections to the government’s findings. While appreciating the government’s effort to engage in consultations and present the findings, Diengdoh refrained from disclosing individual parties’ stances, stating that each party was free to express its position publicly after reviewing the report in detail.
