A political controversy has erupted in Muzaffarpur following allegations made by Tejashwi Yadav regarding the killing of a local resident during a police operation. Tejashwi Yadav claimed on social media that a Sub-Inspector, allegedly intoxicated, entered a farmer’s house and fatally shot him in the Gaighat police station area. He criticized the state government for not taking action against the accused officer, labeling the incident as anarchy.
The Bihar Police have allegedly failed to arrest the Sub-Inspector, who is believed to be sheltered by a powerful liquor mafia figure in Muzaffarpur, according to Tejashwi. He accused political influence of hindering justice and questioned the lack of police raids to apprehend the accused officer. Tejashwi also highlighted the paradox of the officer being selected for an award despite facing serious allegations, raising concerns about systemic corruption in the police administration.
Tejashwi warned of potential public unrest if swift action and justice are not served, placing responsibility on the government and administration for any escalation. The Rashtriya Janata Dal has vowed to seek justice for the deceased, escalating the political tension in Muzaffarpur. The district has witnessed public outrage and protests since the incident, with the opposition criticizing the police’s decision to proceed with a medal distribution ceremony amidst the controversy.
