Union Minister Pralhad Joshi assumed the role of Union Education Minister on Sunday, following Dharmendra Pradhan’s resignation amidst nationwide protests over alleged exam paper leaks. The appointment comes during a period of intense scrutiny on the Education Ministry due to student protests seeking accountability for exam irregularities. President Droupadi Murmu, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s advice, accepted Pradhan’s resignation under Article 75(2) of the Constitution.
With Joshi taking on the additional responsibility while retaining his current role as the Union Minister for Food and Consumer Affairs, the government aims to ensure the smooth functioning of the Education Ministry. This move follows Pradhan’s resignation, marking a significant change in the Union Cabinet amidst student unrest over alleged paper leaks and exam controversies. The government, through interim arrangements, seeks to maintain operational continuity in the Education Ministry.
Joshi’s new assignment is part of an interim measure to prevent administrative disruptions in the Education Ministry. The President’s communique confirmed the immediate effect of the changes, ensuring a seamless transition in the ministry’s operations. The constitutional process, as per Article 75(2), was followed in accepting Pradhan’s resignation and appointing Joshi to oversee the Education Ministry.
