The Prasar Bharati has decided to keep the Dharwad Akashvani Regional Centre in Dharwad following requests from Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. Initially planned to move to Bengaluru, the decision faced strong opposition from the people of North Karnataka. Pralhad Joshi successfully advocated for retaining the center in Dharwad due to its significant connection with the region.
The Akashvani center, established in 1981, has a deep-rooted relationship with the local community. It broadcasts a 10-minute morning news bulletin daily at 7:05 a.m., which remains popular among listeners. Additionally, a five-minute district news bulletin is aired every Monday at 6:30 p.m., covering various districts in the region.
The decision to relocate the news bulletin operations to Bengaluru due to increased workload sparked concerns about the center’s future. Initially set to move in 2026, the shift raised worries among listeners and prominent figures from North Karnataka. However, following interventions by Pralhad Joshi and Ashwini Vaishnaw, the Dharwad Akashvani Regional Centre will continue its operations in Dharwad.
