Election strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor is gearing up to contest the by-elections from Bihar’s Bankipur Assembly seat, a stronghold of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for many years, as announced by Jan Suraaj Party (JSP) chief Manoj Bharti. This move confirms Kishor’s entry into the electoral race, putting an end to speculations about his challenge to the BJP in its traditional territory.
The Bankipur Assembly seat, which has been a BJP stronghold for decades, was previously won by now BJP national President Nitin Nabin with a significant margin in the Bihar Assembly elections. The by-polls were necessitated after Nabin resigned from his Assembly position to join the Rajya Sabha.
Prashant Kishor, speaking to the media, expressed the party’s strong determination to contest the by-election with full commitment and energy. He emphasized that winning this election would mark the beginning of “alternative politics” in the state, aiming for a vision of change in Bihar. Kishor acknowledged the support of thousands who have been associated with Jan Suraaj’s ideas and efforts, stating that winning the Bankipur by-election would not only strengthen the movement but also revive the vision of change in Bihar.
The voting for the Bankipur by-polls is scheduled for July 30, with the results expected to be announced on August 3. Various political parties are actively preparing for the upcoming by-elections. The Congress has already declared its support for Kishor in the elections, while attention is now on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to see if it will extend its support to the JSP leader in an attempt to secure the seat long-held by the BJP.
