The government announced the appointment of Prasoon Joshi as the Chairman of Prasar Bharati. A Ministry of Information and Broadcasting statement highlighted Joshi’s extensive contributions in literature, advertising, cinema, and public communication. Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, praised Joshi’s creative spirit and expressed confidence in his leadership.
Joshi, known for his impactful writing and cultural sensibility, has been instrumental in shaping Indian media narratives. His work, ranging from film lyrics to advertising campaigns, resonates with audiences nationwide. Previously, Joshi served as the Chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in Mumbai, where he focused on enhancing film certification processes.
With a balanced approach to creative expression and regulatory responsibility, Joshi’s tenure at CBFC was notable. He also held positions at McCann World Group India and Asia Pacific, contributing significantly to the industry. Additionally, Joshi has been a Trustee of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts since 2016.
Prasar Bharati, established under the Prasar Bharati (Broadcasting Corporation of India) Act, 1990, has been operational since 1997 as India’s statutory autonomous public service broadcaster.
