Premalatha Vijayakanth, the General Secretary of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK), addressed speculations regarding delays in forming alliances before the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. She emphasized that there is sufficient time for the elections and that the party will decide on alliances at the right moment. Premalatha criticized the media for creating unnecessary speculation and highlighted that the Election Commission of India has not yet announced the election date for Tamil Nadu.
Premalatha likened the DMDK to a child under her care, stating that decisions on alliances will be made responsibly and in due time. She stressed that the party’s choices will be based on long-term political interests rather than immediate pressures. Regarding the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) launching its election campaign in Tamil Nadu, Premalatha mentioned that the NDA’s alliance structure is still being finalized with discussions ongoing among various political groups.
In response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comments hinting at a change in government post-elections, Premalatha cautiously expressed hope for good governance without specifying any particular alliance or party. The DMDK, which previously contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections in partnership with the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), has maintained flexibility in its political approach, waiting for the opportune moment to reveal its next move.
