Preparations are in progress for the groundbreaking ceremony of an upcoming international stadium at Surya Nagar 4th Phase near Indlawadi in Anekal taluk, Bengaluru. Karnataka Housing Minister, Zameer Ahmad Khan, recently visited the site to oversee the arrangements for the event, scheduled for May 23. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is set to lay the foundation stone for this sports infrastructure project.
The stadium, spread over 75 acres and costing Rs 2,350 crore, will accommodate 80,000 spectators, becoming a key sports hub for Karnataka. Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan’s recent visit marked the second inspection within a week to monitor the project’s progress. The stadium is envisioned to become India’s second-largest cricket venue, addressing the need for enhanced crowd management following a previous stadium incident.
The initial phase of the project will focus on constructing the main stadium structure, associated works, and internal road infrastructure. Concerns have been raised about the remote location and the lack of high-capacity road or Metro connectivity to the Anekal area. The Karnataka Housing Board has initiated the tender process for the first phase, with a focus on completing the stadium construction by 2029.
