Preparations are in progress to demolish an under-construction 18-storey apartment complex in Bengaluru due to concerns over its structural stability. The building, located on Haralur Main Road near Kudlu Gate, has tilted, leading to worries about public safety. This project by SNN Raj Corp is set to be the tallest residential building facing demolition in the city.

The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) has decided, after consultations with experts, to proceed with the demolition of the affected apartment complex. Nearly 20% of the building is reported to have tilted, raising alarm over the safety of its 49 apartments. The demolition process is scheduled to commence next week following the ongoing preparatory work.

The construction of this project, with an estimated investment of around Rs 200 crore, has been ongoing for a year. Engineers raised concerns about the building’s lean, prompting fears of a potential structural failure if corrective actions were not taken. The developers have sought permission from the GBA and Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) to bring down the structure to avert any future mishaps.

The incident has highlighted the importance of construction standards and regulatory oversight in Bengaluru’s expanding real estate sector. GBA officials, including Chief Commissioner M. Maheshwar Rao, are set to investigate the structural defect’s causes and potential violations of construction norms or lapses in quality control during the project’s execution.
