President Droupadi Murmu is set to visit the Army Training Command in Shimla before departing for Delhi, marking the end of her five-day stay at her official residence in Mashobra. During her time in Mashobra, she inspected various areas in Rashtrapati Niwas and assessed the facilities for visitors. Additionally, she planted a Khumani sapling in the official residence’s lawn.
Ahead of her planned speech at the convocation ceremony of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya in Palampur, security measures were heightened with restrictions on aero sports like paragliding for five hours. Throughout her visit to Himachal Pradesh starting on April 27, President Murmu utilized Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra as her base before attending various events over the course of several days.
President Murmu also attended a banquet hosted by Himachal Pradesh Governor Kavinder Gupta at Lok Bhavan in Shimla on April 28. The Rashtrapati Niwas in Mashobra, which opened to the public in April 2023, now offers a complimentary bus service from Shimla to Mashobra on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Visitors can explore the 174-year-old Rashtrapati Niwas, nature trails, and other parts of the building, including its lawns and parks, guided by staff at the presidential residence.
Constructed in 1850 in European architectural style by the King of Koti, the Rashtrapati Niwas, formerly known as the Retreat Building, is one of India’s four existing presidential residences. The other presidential residences include Rashtrapati Ashiana in Dehradun, Rashtrapati Nilayam in Telangana, and Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.
