President Droupadi Murmu has begun her State Visits to Moldova, North Macedonia, and Romania, emphasizing India’s commitment to strengthening ties with Eastern Europe. This marks the first-ever visit by an Indian President to Moldova and North Macedonia, and the first presidential visit to Romania in over three decades. The visit aims to boost political, economic, and people-to-people engagement with these European nations.
In Moldova, President Murmu will engage in bilateral talks with President Maia Sandu and other officials. The visit is significant as it is the first time an Indian President is visiting Moldova. Both countries anticipate enhanced cooperation in sectors like agriculture, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, IT, and education. The visit is expected to elevate bilateral relations to a broader strategic partnership.
Following Moldova, the President will travel to North Macedonia, where she will meet with President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova and Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski. This visit also marks the first-ever by an Indian President to North Macedonia. Discussions will focus on strengthening cooperation in agriculture, pharmaceuticals, science, technology, and IT services. The aim is to deepen ties between the two nations.
President Murmu’s final stop will be Romania, where she will meet with President Nicușor Dan and interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. This visit is significant as it is the first by an Indian President to Romania in over three decades. The agenda includes talks on enhancing bilateral economic ties and exploring opportunities in various sectors. The visit underscores India’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with Eastern European countries.
