President Droupadi Murmu recently made history by diving aboard the Indian Navy’s indigenous Kalvari-class submarine INS Vaghsheer at the Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka. Accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, she undertook a dived sortie on the Western Seaboard, marking only the second such experience by an Indian President.
This significant event saw President Murmu being briefed on the submarine arm’s role in India’s maritime strategy, its operational capabilities, and its contribution to safeguarding national maritime interests. She also took the opportunity to interact with the crew of INS Vaghsheer, praising their dedication, professionalism, and selfless service spirit.
President Murmu’s dive on INS Vaghsheer follows her previous historic flight in a Rafale fighter aircraft at Air Force Station Ambala in Haryana. As the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, she continues to demonstrate her commitment to experiencing and understanding the country’s defense capabilities firsthand.
