A tragic road accident in Bihar’s Katihar district resulted in 10 fatalities and 25 injuries on Saturday evening. President Droupadi Murmu, along with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, expressed deep condolences to the affected families. President Murmu conveyed her sadness and prayers for the swift recovery of the injured individuals. PM Modi announced financial assistance of Rs. 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs. 50,000 for each injured person. CM Nitish Kumar also extended condolences and announced similar financial aid from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The accident, which occurred on National Highway number 31 near Basgada Chowk, involved a collision between a bus and a pickup vehicle, resulting in severe damage and casualties. Eyewitnesses reported that the bus was speeding when it collided with the pickup van, leading to a devastating impact. Local authorities and police promptly responded, transporting the injured to nearby medical facilities for urgent treatment. The injured are receiving medical care at Katihar Sadar Hospital, with some in critical condition, raising concerns about a potential increase in the death toll.
The tragic incident has left the region in mourning, emphasizing the critical need for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such heartbreaking losses in the future.
