In a move to empower women economically, President Droupadi Murmu will officially introduce the ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ by the Delhi government. The scheme will provide two free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali to 15 lakh underprivileged families. A special event named ‘Sashakt Nari, Samriddh Delhi’ will take place at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium for the launch.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted the government’s dedication to women’s empowerment through this initiative. The Department of Women and Child Development is organizing the event. Chief Minister Gupta emphasized the need for a forward-looking scheme for girls due to changing times and increasing education costs.
The existing Ladli Scheme has been revamped into the ‘Delhi Lakhpati Bitiya Yojana’ to support girls’ education and future prospects. Under the new scheme, Rs 56,000 will be deposited in stages for each girl child, with an expected maturity value exceeding Rs 1 lakh by the age of 21. The aim is to make completing graduation or a professional diploma a common achievement.
The scheme will be fully digital, managed by SBI Life Insurance Company Limited, and invested under the SBI Life Dhanrashi Sadhan. The funds will grow with the girl’s age, and the accumulated sum will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s Aadhaar-linked bank account upon maturity. Families with an annual income below Rs 1.20 lakh residing in Delhi for three years are eligible.
