Accompanied by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Victoria’s Premier Jacinta Allan, PM Modi attended an event celebrating India-Australia sporting relations.
The leaders engaged with young athletes participating in Kabbadi, Australian football, and cricket exhibition games during the visit. PM Modi took to social media to share his experience, highlighting the unique ability of sports to connect people. He expressed delight in watching children play various sports at the MCG.
The visit highlighted the significance of sports, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people connections in the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. Both leaders unveiled the India-Australia Sports Collaboration Roadmap, emphasizing the growing cooperation in the sports sector between the two nations. PM Modi praised Australia’s victory in the women’s cricket World Cup and underscored the potential for deeper collaboration in sports, youth engagement, and infrastructure development.
PM Modi stressed the pivotal role of sports in fostering unity and mentioned the upcoming major global sporting events that India and Australia will host. With India hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2030 and Australia set to host the Brisbane Olympics in 2032, he highlighted the opportunities for enhanced bilateral cooperation in sports and related industries.
