Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the Indian men’s U-18 hockey team for winning the Men’s U-18 Asia Cup 2026 title. The team secured a 4-1 victory over Japan in the final, with Ashish Tani Purti scoring a hat-trick and Ketan Kushwaha adding another goal. Modi commended the team’s skill and teamwork, highlighting the sport’s popularity among youth.

India dominated the final, taking an early lead and maintaining control throughout the match. Despite Japan scoring one goal, India’s defense remained strong, securing the championship. Purti’s outstanding performance earned him the Player of the Match award and the tournament’s top scorer title, while Ayush Rajak was named Best Goalkeeper.

In addition to the men’s team, Modi also congratulated the Indian women’s U-18 hockey team for winning the bronze medal at the U18 Asia Cup 2026. The women’s team displayed remarkable grit, with Sandeepa Kumari and Sweety Kujur scoring goals in their 3-0 victory over Korea.
