Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences after a tragic road accident in Gujarat’s Surendranagar district claimed the lives of seven pilgrims early Monday. The accident occurred on the Lakhtar-Viramgam highway when a group of foot pilgrims was hit by a speeding dumper truck. The victims, from the Bharwad community, were en route to Viramgam for a temple visit and flag-hoisting ritual.
Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was moving at a high speed and did not slow down, resulting in the tragic incident. Among the victims were members of the Mundhva family, including five women and two men who lost their lives at the scene. Several others sustained serious injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The truck driver involved in the accident fled the scene, and authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the circumstances leading to the collision. Police and emergency services responded promptly to the scene, transporting the victims to a local hospital for further examination and care.
