Prime Minister Narendra Modi commended Jammu and Kashmir for its remarkable achievements in sports, especially their recent victory in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 final against Karnataka. This win, after 67 years of participation, has sparked a new wave of enthusiasm for sports among the youth in the region.
During his monthly radio program, Mann Ki Baat, PM Modi expressed pride in the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team’s historic Ranji Trophy win. He highlighted the exceptional leadership of team captain Paras Dogra and the impressive performance of young bowler Aaqib Nabi, who took 60 wickets in the tournament. This victory has not only thrilled the players and coaching staff but also the entire community in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Prime Minister emphasized the growing passion for sports in Jammu and Kashmir, mentioning the region’s hosting of major sporting events like the Khelo India Winter Games in Gulmarg. He encouraged the youth to pursue sports, stating that the recent success in cricket will inspire many to engage in sports activities. PM Modi also praised Gulveer Singh for setting a national record in the men’s half-marathon and Anahat Singh for her achievements in squash, highlighting the rising prominence of women in sports.
In his address, PM Modi reiterated the significance of fitness and announced the approaching International Day of Yoga. He acknowledged the global popularity of yoga and commended Almis Ji for promoting yoga through the Arvind Yoga Centre in Djibouti, Africa, and beyond, emphasizing the importance of physical well-being.
