Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat on Saturday to inaugurate the CG Semi Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) facility in Sanand, Ahmedabad district. The facility, developed under the ‘India Semiconductor Mission,’ represents one of India’s initial semiconductor assembly and testing plants. With an investment exceeding Rs 7,500 crore, the CG Semi OSAT facility is among the first four semiconductor projects sanctioned under the Mission.
The plant is equipped to offer comprehensive semiconductor assembly and testing services, encompassing wafer sorting, assembly, testing, package design, failure analysis, test program development, product characterization, and logistics support. Upon reaching full capacity, the facility is projected to produce up to five billion semiconductor chips annually. It is anticipated to cater to various sectors such as automotive, industrial, telecommunications, 5G, and Internet of Things (IoT), meeting the rising demand for memory and storage solutions driven by advancements in artificial intelligence and high-performance computing.
This inauguration signifies a significant advancement in India’s semiconductor manufacturing journey as commercial production commences at the facility. The project is a crucial stride in enhancing India’s position in the global semiconductor value chain. PM Modi’s visit to Gujarat follows his engagements in Rajasthan, where he will unveil various development projects and initiatives, including the inauguration of the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and the launch of the Modified UDAN scheme.
