The main suspect in the double murder near Baliya village in Bihar’s Banka district was wounded in a police shootout on Saturday. Sachin Kumar Singh, recently apprehended in Ranchi, allegedly fired at the police while showing them the weapon used in the killings. During the incident, four police officers also sustained injuries.
Banka Police had detained Sachin Kumar Singh, the prime accused in the murder case, in Ranchi based on technical information. The suspect revealed during questioning that he had hidden the murder weapon in a forested area near Baliya village. A police team accompanied the suspect to recover the concealed weapon when the shootout occurred.
In a sudden turn of events, Sachin Kumar Singh broke away from the police escort, retrieved a pistol from nearby bushes, and opened fire on the officers. The exchange of gunfire resulted in injuries to several police personnel, including the suspect. The police clarified that they retaliated in self-defense during the encounter.
Sachin Kumar Singh sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the exchange and was subdued by the police. He received initial treatment at Sadar Hospital, Banka, before being transferred to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College Hospital in Bhagalpur for further medical care. The case pertains to the daylight murders of Gunjan Singh and Seetu Singh near Baliya village on July 5, sparking concerns about law and order in Bihar.
Teams from the Special Task Force (STF) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) visited the crime scene post the encounter to gather forensic evidence. Another suspect, Sonam Singh alias Som Singh, was previously arrested in Begusarai district and is now in judicial custody. Banka Superintendent of Police Amitesh Kumar confirmed the incident, stating that the police acted in self-defense during the encounter.
