Senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan expressed support for Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s foreign visits, highlighting their role in showcasing India’s position globally. Chavan criticized the Maharashtra government, labeling it as the “most corrupt government” in the state.
Chavan also addressed Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar’s defense of candidates with criminal backgrounds for civic polls, emphasizing the prevailing corruption within the state’s ruling alliance. He underscored the importance of evidence in such cases.
Discussing India’s relations with Bangladesh, Chavan noted a decline due to recent foreign policy decisions. He raised concerns over the treatment of minorities in Bangladesh and emphasized the need for India to maintain positive relations with its neighbors.
Regarding the controversy surrounding Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Bangladeshi player Mustafizur Rahman, Chavan criticized the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for pressuring the team to drop the player. He viewed this as a potential strain on India’s relations with Bangladesh.
In response to the US intervention in Venezuela, Chavan highlighted the tensions between the two countries. He urged India, as a significant economy, to adopt a prudent stance, potentially abstaining from taking sides to promote peace.
