The Privilege Committee of the Legislative Council has suggested 30 days of civil imprisonment for NCP(SP) leader Suryakant More due to his objectionable comments against Maharashtra Legislative Council Chairman Ram Shinde during a recent local body polls campaign rally. Committee Chairman and BJP MLC Prasad Lad presented the report. Shinde confirmed the submission of the report to the council.
The Legislative Council had acknowledged a breach of Privilege Motion against Suryakant More during the Winter Session of the State Legislature. The motion was initiated after More made disparaging remarks about the Legislative Council chairperson and the state legislature. More, an associate of NCP(SP)’s local MLA Rohit Pawar, faced the consequences.
Following an election rally for the Jamkhed Municipal Council, where More allegedly criticized the Legislative Council and its chairperson, Ram Shinde, tensions escalated due to local political rivalries. The incident was part of an ongoing political feud in the constituency, stemming from Shinde’s previous defeat by Rohit Pawar in the Karjat-Jamkhed Assembly seat.
At the Winter Session in December 2025, BJP MLCs Darekar and Prasad Lad raised a Breach of Privilege notice against More for his controversial statements during the November 23, 2025, rally in Jamkhed. They argued that the remarks not only insulted Ram Shinde personally but also disrespected the constitutional office and history of the Upper House.
The committee, led by Prasad Lad, summoned More thrice for hearings, with More initially missing them before finally appearing.
