Ace filmmaker Priyadarshan discussed why ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ shouldn’t be labeled a horror comedy. During promotions for ‘Bhoot Bangla’, he highlighted their pioneering role in the horror comedy genre in India. Priyadarshan clarified that ‘Bhool Bhulaiyaa’ is more of a psychological thriller than a horror film.

Shedding light on the genre, Priyadarshan explained the importance of balancing humor in tense films. He emphasized that while humor can alleviate tension, crafting comedy requires significant effort. Despite finding it challenging, he acknowledged the audience’s repeated enjoyment of comedic sequences in theaters.

The filmmaker candidly admitted that blending humor and horror always gives him chills. He described the process as extremely demanding and expressed his struggles with creating successful comedy films. Priyadarshan reflected on the audience’s enduring appreciation for his work, even when he personally finds it hard to laugh upon revisiting his films.
