Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi criticized the government’s decision to connect women’s reservation with delimitation, calling it a planned scheme to manipulate electoral boundaries for political gain. She highlighted the Congress party’s historical efforts to enhance women’s representation in politics, citing initiatives like the introduction of 33% reservation for women in local bodies during Rajiv Gandhi’s tenure.
Responding to the Prime Minister’s remarks on delayed women’s reservations, Priyanka Gandhi mentioned significant milestones such as the passage of the women’s reservation bill in the Rajya Sabha under Dr. Manmohan Singh’s leadership in 2010. She questioned the government’s reluctance to implement women’s reservation in its entirety, especially with the current 543-seat strength in the Lok Sabha.
Priyanka Gandhi targeted the Prime Minister for allegedly misrepresenting the BJP’s commitment to women’s rights and accused the government of manipulating the women’s reservation bill by intertwining it with delimitation. She criticized the rushed approach to these bills, suggesting a hidden agenda that could impact marginalized communities and the democratic structure.
