The investigation into the death of 27-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta, who tragically died after his car plunged into a water-filled ditch in Noida’s Sector-150, has begun. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) initiated the inquiry following serious allegations of negligence, as directed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The SIT has been tasked to present its findings to the state government within five days.
In response to the incident, the Chief Minister has relieved Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M. of his duties and dismissed a junior engineer. Additionally, a builder-cum-developer has been arrested by the Knowledge Park police on charges of criminal negligence. The SIT, led by ADG Bhanu Bhaskar, convened a meeting at the Noida Authority office, questioning officials like Police Commissioner Lakshmi Singh and District Magistrate Medha Roopam.
During the meeting, the victim’s father, Rajkumar Mehta, was interrogated for approximately thirty minutes. He recounted witnessing his son trapped in the sinking car and alleged that despite the presence of around 80 individuals at the scene, no rescue efforts were made. His detailed testimony regarding the sequence of events on the night of the accident is considered pivotal to the investigation.
Following the meeting, the SIT, accompanied by relevant officials, visited the accident site in Sector-150. The team surveyed the location where the car entered the water, the road turn where the incident occurred, and the apparent lack of safety precautions. ADG Bhanu Bhaskar outlined that the investigation would progress in three phases, with statements from witnesses and scrutiny of civic and police roles.
