A protest outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence resulted in the detention of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the arrest of several Congress MPs, including Priyanka Gandhi and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav by the Delhi Police. The demonstration, demanding government accountability over NEET paper leaks, saw security personnel removing the protesting leaders who were sitting in a dharna and chanting slogans. Despite initial resistance, Rahul Gandhi was eventually moved from the high-security area after persuasion by the police.

The protest, which included a call for a prolonged agitation by Rahul Gandhi on social media, emphasized the importance of justice for students. Gandhi highlighted that an attack on students is an attack on every Indian family and urged patriotic Indians to join the sit-in outside the Prime Minister’s residence. Following inconclusive talks between the protesting MPs and the government, many Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, were taken into custody by the police, with an official statement pending from the Delhi Police.

The standoff between the Congress and the Centre unfolded as Gandhi siblings gathered at the Congress president’s house before marching towards the PM’s residence. Efforts by Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh and the Home Secretary to pacify the lawmakers did not yield results. While Congress leaders claimed that discussions with Dr. Singh did not reach a resolution, the government representative alleged that the LoP reneged on agreements made regarding debates on issues like the NEET paper leaks.
