India’s Pukhraj Singh Gill retained his top position on the leaderboard at the Players Championship despite facing a setback during the round where he lost three shots in three holes. Gill, a player in the Indian Premier Golf League (IGPL), scored 2-under 70, advancing to 13-under and maintaining a one-shot lead over Filipino Sean Ramos, who stands at 12-under. Thanawin Lee from Thailand secured the third spot at 9-under.
Khalin Joshi from India was at T-33 after carding a 71, while Kartik Singh, a young player from India’s IGPL in 2025, dropped from the Top-10 to T-56 with a disappointing 81. Other Indian players like Aman Raj, Aryan Roopa Anand, and Varun Parikh, all part of the IGPL, failed to make the cut. Gill, known for his long drives, previously won on the IGPL and currently represents Honer Homes Gurugram in the team competition.
Gill had a strong start with an eagle on the Par-4 fourth hole and added birdies on the sixth and eighth to reach 15-under, holding a three-shot lead momentarily. However, he faltered with bogeys on the ninth and a double bogey on the 11th. Despite this, he recovered with a series of pars, ending with a birdie on the 17th to finish at 13-under. Last year, Gill’s consistent performances earned him the Order of Merit title, and he aims to build on his success this season.
Gill’s success continued from the previous year, where he clinched multiple victories and topped the Order of Merit on the IGPL Tour. His notable performance led him to secure a spot in the International Series Singapore, where he finished Tied-26th. Reflecting on his journey, Gill, a native of Ludhiana in Punjab, credited his experience in Singapore for boosting his confidence as he progresses through the season. Earlier in the tournament, Gill showcased exceptional golf skills, playing 25 holes on the second day to position himself for a potential maiden Asian Development Tour (ADT) triumph.
