Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis declared Pune’s trajectory towards becoming a top global hub for Deep Tech and Global Capability Centres (GCCs) by 2030, aiming to establish it as India’s primary modern city and “Growth Engine.” At a ceremony for three elevated corridor projects, Fadnavis highlighted the state’s efforts to alleviate Pune’s persistent traffic congestion.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is executing these projects on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis, generating significant upfront premiums for the government. The projects include the Pune-Shirur Corridor with Rs 500 crore, Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Corridor with Rs 300 crore, and Hadapsar-Yavat Corridor with Rs 150 crore, totaling Rs 950 crore.
Fadnavis disclosed that all three elevated corridors have been pre-designed to accommodate future metro lines, ensuring seamless integration and reducing future alignment costs by up to 40 percent. To improve connectivity to the upcoming Purandar International Airport, plans are underway for a double-tube tunnel through Dive Ghat to facilitate both road and metro transit.
