Punjab BJP President Kewal Singh Dhillon criticized the Punjab Aam Aadmi Party government for launching a financial assistance scheme benefiting around 40 lakh adult women, labeling it a betrayal against women. Dhillon accused the government of misleading the public and engaging in mere electoral tactics under Arvind Kejriwal’s influence.
Dhillon raised concerns about the government’s actions, alleging significant discrepancies in fund disbursement. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann introduced the scheme in Dhuri town, announcing direct transfers of three months’ financial aid to eligible recipients, with adult women receiving Rs 3,000 and Scheduled Caste women receiving Rs 4,500.
The BJP leader expressed dissatisfaction, stating that general category women were entitled to Rs 60,000 and Scheduled Caste women to Rs 90,000 over five years. He criticized the government for not providing any funds for four and a half years and then offering a nominal amount during the election period, which he deemed a betrayal.
Dhillon highlighted the government’s misleading tactics, noting a shift in payment schedules from April-June to July-September, likely to influence voters before the election code of conduct is enforced. He pointed out the deteriorating situation in Punjab, with farmers protesting due to electricity shortages during the crucial paddy transplantation season and various department employees demonstrating for their rights.
Directly addressing Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, Dhillon accused the government of evading accountability on critical issues like the sacrilege prevention law and the Chief Minister’s controversial video. He claimed that the government’s attempts to divert attention through public spectacles would not succeed, as the people of Punjab are aware of the deception and will respond in the 2027 Assembly elections.
