Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann initiated the ‘Meri Rasoi Yojana’ in Bhalwan village, Sangrur district, providing free nutritional food kits to around 40 lakh impoverished families in the state. This initiative, aimed at easing kitchen burdens amidst inflation, is among India’s largest household nutrition support programs. The government, under CM Mann’s leadership, is not just announcing schemes but ensuring tangible relief through various welfare measures like free electricity, healthcare, and women-centric programs.
CM Mann emphasized the importance of the ‘Meri Rasoi’ scheme, which offers kitchen kits every three months to families, including essential items like mustard oil, pulses, sugar, salt, and turmeric. The focus is on meeting the practical needs of households, particularly women managing daily cooking responsibilities. The Chief Minister stressed the significance of proper nutrition for children’s overall well-being, education, and active participation in various activities.
During the launch event, CM Mann highlighted the government’s efforts to modernize infrastructure, including the ongoing underground power cabling project to make Punjab ‘pole-free’ in the near future. He pointed out that the state government’s comprehensive approach goes beyond just distributing grains, ensuring that every household, especially those from lower-income groups, has access to essential cooking items for daily sustenance.
Under the ‘Meri Rasoi Yojana,’ the government aims to support households in managing expenses with dignity, with nearly 90% of Punjab’s households already benefiting from zero electricity bills. This initiative not only aids in saving money but also enhances the quality of life for families, allowing them to redirect saved funds towards other household needs.
