The controversy surrounding Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s remarks connecting recent blasts in the state to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has escalated. BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh has issued a legal notice to Mann, demanding a retraction of his statement and a public apology within seven days. Chugh criticized Mann for making false and defamatory allegations that he claims have damaged the reputation of the political party.
The legal notice warns of criminal prosecution for defamation if the demands are not met within the stipulated time frame. The dispute arose when Mann, during his ‘Shukrana Yatra,’ suggested that the blasts were part of BJP’s preparations for the upcoming state Assembly election. This led to swift reactions from senior BJP leaders, challenging Mann to take legal action if he had evidence to support his claims.
Chugh’s notice accuses Mann of spreading misinformation, making false allegations, and attempting to disrupt public order with baseless claims. Describing Mann’s statement as politically motivated and defamatory, Chugh emphasized that such accusations have deeply affected BJP workers and supporters. The notice demands the withdrawal of defamatory remarks, an unconditional apology, and a commitment to refrain from similar actions to avoid legal consequences.
