Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann visited Gurdwara Jyotisar Sahib in Sangrur to express gratitude for enacting the Jaagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026. He emphasized that the new law aims to prevent sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, ensuring relief and satisfaction while deterring such acts. Mann criticized the BJP-led Centre for alleged interference in decision-making and misuse of central agencies to intimidate political opponents.
Declaring Punjab’s resilience against pressure tactics, Mann assured that the state’s people would resist any attempts to stifle democratic voices. He highlighted the positive reception of the legislation by the public, with various religious gatherings being organized to thanksgiving paths. Mann reiterated his government’s commitment to upholding the sanctity of Guru Granth Sahib and vowed strict action against sacrilegious activities.
Addressing concerns over Enforcement Directorate raids in Punjab, Mann accused the Union government of misusing the agency to coerce opposition leaders. He condemned such tactics, stating that Punjabis would not succumb to such pressures and would respond appropriately to defend democracy against threats and intimidation.
