The Punjab state Congress President, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, has raised concerns about the Bhagwant Mann government’s decision to enforce the Viksit Bharat — Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) (VB-G RAM G) scheme starting July 1. Warring questioned the government’s motives, suggesting a potential agreement with the BJP-led Centre. Despite the Punjab Assembly’s unanimous rejection of the legislation, the state government proceeded with the scheme’s notification, contradicting its own resolution.
Warring highlighted the timing of the scheme’s implementation in Punjab, labeling it both significant and unexpected. He speculated whether the sudden enforcement was linked to the Chief Minister’s current controversies, insinuating a move to appease the BJP amidst internal and external pressures. Additionally, Warring called out AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal, urging him to clarify his stance on the Mann government’s decision.
Union Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan criticized the Punjab Assembly’s refusal to adopt the Centre’s rural livelihood scheme, condemning it as undemocratic and contrary to constitutional principles. Chouhan characterized the Assembly’s actions as reflective of “blind opposition” politics.
