Amidst soaring temperatures and prevailing heatwave conditions in Punjab, the Bhagwant Mann government has modified the operational hours of government offices and educational institutions starting this Monday. The new schedule mandates that all government offices, service centers, and educational institutions, including government, aided, and private schools, will operate from 7:30 A.M. to 1:30 P.M. until further notice.
This decision has garnered positive feedback from employees and officials who view it as a timely and practical measure to safeguard individuals from the extreme heat while also curbing electricity consumption. A Punjab government employee commended the move, stating, “The government’s decision is very appropriate given the significant rise in temperatures. This will help alleviate the strain on electricity consumption caused by increased air conditioner usage.”
Another employee expressed approval of the revised timing, noting, “Starting work at 7:30 A.M. and finishing by 1:30 P.M. will offer relief during the hottest part of the day.” A third employee lauded the initiative, emphasizing its role in reducing excessive air conditioner usage and lessening electricity demand during peak daytime temperatures.
In Amritsar, Deputy Commissioner Dalwinderjit Singh assured the smooth implementation of the adjusted timings across the district and urged public cooperation with the new arrangement. Similarly, Mohali Deputy Commissioner, Komal Mittal, highlighted that the decision prioritizes public health and power conservation amid the prevailing heatwave conditions, aiming to provide relief to individuals by allowing them to commute early and avoid the scorching afternoon heat.
Punjab, along with several other northern states, has been grappling with severe heatwave conditions, prompting authorities to take precautionary steps to safeguard public health and ensure efficient power management.
