Punjab Police made a significant breakthrough by apprehending four individuals involved in a cross-border drug smuggling operation. The arrests led to the confiscation of 28.12 kg of heroin and Rs 9.5 lakh in drug money. The suspects, identified as Bagicha Singh, Bhupinder Singh, Sajan, and Chhinder Pal Singh, were residents of different villages in Punjab.
The police not only seized the substantial amount of heroin but also impounded the vehicle used by the smugglers for their illicit activities. According to Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav, initial investigations suggest that the arrested individuals had connections with foreign-based smugglers who tasked them with acquiring and distributing the narcotics.
Further probing is ongoing to uncover the entire network involved in cross-border drug trafficking. Assistant Inspector General Gursewak Singh shared that the suspects were intercepted while en route to deliver the heroin consignment to another party, based on instructions from their handlers. The swift police action led to the recovery of the drugs and cash.
The accused were allegedly promised significant rewards by their handlers for their role in the smuggling operation. Authorities anticipate more arrests and seizures as the investigation progresses. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, and efforts are underway to dismantle the drug smuggling network.
