Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has dismantled a drug smuggling ring by apprehending three individuals and seizing 25 kg of heroin, as confirmed by Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav in Chandigarh. The arrested suspects are Bhupinder Singh from Jandaur village, Ravi Kumar from Kirpal Colony, and Vishal Singh from Fatahpur. Additionally, the police have confiscated the vehicle used for transporting drugs.
This operation follows the recent arrest of three individuals associated with two drug trafficking networks, where 13 kg of heroin was seized. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused were acting under the instructions of a cross-border smuggler, gathering heroin shipments from various locations for distribution across Punjab. The police received intelligence that Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar were scheduled to meet Vishal Singh in Gill village for a significant drug transaction.
Law enforcement swiftly set up checkpoints and intercepted the trio near Dana Mandi of Gill village, leading to the recovery of eight kg of heroin from Vishal Singh and 17 kg from Bhupinder Singh and Ravi Kumar. Further inquiries are ongoing to establish connections and uncover the entire drug supply chain. A case under Sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act has been filed at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Amritsar for this matter.
