Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence Patiala unit in Malerkotla has dismantled a fake currency operation, leading to the arrest of four individuals and the seizure of counterfeit currency worth 5.50 lakh, as confirmed by Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav. The arrested individuals are Nazar Khan from Malerkotla, Raj Mohammad from Dhuri in Sangrur, Mukhtiyar Singh (also known as Gurjit Singh) from Jind in Haryana, and Asif Ali from Malerkotla. All the confiscated fake currency notes are in Rs 500 denomination. Raj Mohammad, one of the accused, has a criminal record with a prior FIR under the NDPS Act.
Assistant Inspector General Simrat Kaur shared that during the operation conducted by the CI Unit Malerkotla, Nazar Khan and Raj Mohammad were apprehended, and Rs 4 lakh in fake currency was seized from them. Subsequent investigations led to the arrest of two more suspects, Mukhtiyar Singh and Asif Ali, with an additional Rs 1.5 lakh in counterfeit currency recovered from them. The authorities anticipate more arrests and discoveries as the investigation progresses to uncover the network’s connections.
In a separate incident, Counter Intelligence Punjab uncovered a transnational terror-gangster nexus by capturing two operatives and confiscating three illegal pistols, including two .30 bore and one .315 bore, along with 11 cartridges. The arrested individuals, Anuraj (alias Gaurav Masih) and Ankush, both hail from Phillaur in Jalandhar. Ankush, a repeat offender, was previously involved in an attempted murder case in Goraya.
