Amid concerns over stray dog attacks in Punjab, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann pledged to follow the Supreme Court’s guidelines to protect public safety and provide humane care for animals. He emphasized the need for people to feel safe in public spaces and announced plans to relocate stray dogs from high-traffic areas while establishing shelters for their welfare. The state government has already taken steps to comply with the court’s orders issued on May 19.
CM Mann highlighted the importance of removing stray dogs from crowded public places to allow citizens, especially children and senior citizens, to move around without fear. He assured the creation and maintenance of shelters to ensure proper care for these animals, demonstrating the government’s commitment to safeguarding both human lives and animal welfare. Legal measures, including euthanasia for rabid or dangerous dogs, will be implemented in accordance with animal welfare laws.
The initiative aims to alleviate the growing threat posed by stray dogs in Punjab, which has raised significant concerns among the populace. CM Mann emphasized the urgency of addressing this issue decisively to protect the public from potential harm caused by stray dog attacks.
