Qualifier Ignacio Buse secured the Hamburg Open title by defeating American Tommy Paul in a thrilling final that lasted over three hours. Buse, a 22-year-old from Peru, became the first qualifier in 2026 to claim an ATP Tour title, showcasing exceptional performance throughout the match.

This victory marks Buse as the first Peruvian ATP Tour champion since Luis Horna’s win in 2007. Notably, Buse joins a select group of male tour-level singles champions from Peru, including Pablo Arraya, Jaime Yzaga, and Horna. The intense final match at Rothenbaum saw both players engaging in high-level play, captivating the spectators with their skill and determination.

In a display of resilience and skill, Buse fought back from a deficit in the second set, ultimately losing to Paul but regaining momentum for the decisive third set. Buse’s remarkable performance in Hamburg ensures his ascent to the Top 50 of the ATP Rankings, positioning him as the fourth Top 50 player from Peru in ATP history, alongside Arraya, Yzaga, and Horna.
