Former Indian cricketers Rahul Dravid and Ravichandran Ashwin have joined other investors to purchase a franchise in the European T20 Premier League. The league has announced Amsterdam, Edinburgh, and Belfast as the initial franchise cities for the upcoming competition, set to commence in late August this year. Dravid and Ashwin, part of an Indian consortium, have secured the Glasgow-based franchise in the six-team tournament happening this summer.
The European T20 Premier League is also finalizing the sale of the second Dutch franchise, located in Rotterdam, to a group of South African investors led by ex-Proteas players Faf du Plessis, Heinrich Klaasen, and Jonty Rhodes. Additionally, Amsterdam’s ownership will include Australian cricket legend Steve Waugh, five-time World Player of the Year and Olympic gold medalist Jamie Dwyer, and former CEO of the Centre for Australia-India Relations, Tim Thomas.
Edinburgh’s ownership will feature former New Zealand cricketers Nathan McCullum and Kyle Mills, while Belfast will be owned by Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell and Rohan Lund, a former Group CEO of NRMA. The league is in discussions to sell the second Dutch franchise in Rotterdam to South African investors. The only remaining city franchise in the league, based in Dublin, has attracted interest from owners of teams in The Hundred.
The European T20 Premier League operates in collaboration with the cricket boards of Ireland, Scotland, and the Netherlands. Bollywood actor and film producer Abhishek Bachchan is a league part-owner in partnership with Rules Sport Tech, a private Indian company.
