Congress MP Rahul Gandhi visited Madina village in Haryana’s Sonipat to participate in a farmer’s daughter’s wedding. During the ceremony, Rahul, the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, sat on mattresses with family members. He engaged with women singing folk songs, showing interest in the wedding customs and rituals.
The Gandhi scion spent about thirty minutes at the event, where he enjoyed ‘churma’ and a glass of milk prepared by Sanjay’s wife, Sunita Devi. ‘Churma’ is a sweet dish made from wheat flour, ghee, and jaggery. MP Deepender Singh Hooda accompanied Rahul at the ceremony.
Before the state’s Assembly elections, Rahul had visited the farmer’s field, driving a tractor and planting paddy. The bride’s family welcomed him with a bouquet of flowers and a shawl, expressing their joy at his presence. Sanjay, the bride’s father, had previously received a promise from Rahul after sending a wedding invitation.
Rahul arrived at the wedding venue around 10:45 a.m., greeted with a Haryanvi turban. As he entered, young men at the door welcomed him with “Rahul Bhai, Ram Ram,” to which he responded with folded hands, acknowledging their greetings warmly.
