During his visit to Great Nicobar Island, Gandhi witnessed the vast, ancient forests and the diverse communities residing there, highlighting the beauty that is at risk of being lost due to the project. He condemned the government’s actions, pointing out the imminent devastation of rainforests and the disregard for the rights of indigenous and settler populations. Gandhi called for immediate intervention to prevent what he termed as a significant assault on the nation’s natural and tribal legacy.
